Abstract:

The purpose of this study was to assess 171 employees' job satisfaction and job commitment using two questionnaires, one to evaluate job satisfaction and one to examine commitment of the respondents to their respective jobs. The Job Satisfaction Questionnaire assessed job security, job status, relations with managers, and relations with colleagues. The desire to fulfill the commitments related to job requirements was tested using the scores on the Organizational Commitment Scale, which measures discipline, concern, and updating. Scores on job satisfaction and the desire to fulfill job commitments were correlated; however, scores on job security were not correlated with the motivation towards job fulfillment. Positive satisfactions for relations with managers and with colleagues and job status were significantly correlated with positive job commitment. The canonical variant indicated that those who were disciplined about their work tended to have better relations with their managers as well as with colleagues.

Abstract:

A sample of 710 subjects between 14 and 19 years of age were examined to assess psychological health of United Arab Emirates (UAE) families with adolescent members. The Family Functioning Questionnaire (FFQ) based upon the adolescent's perception of his or her family life and climate contains seven dimensions that constitute the family functioning process: family structure, emotional fulfillment, internal relations, behavioral control, value transmission, basic requirements, and external relations. Results indicate that the adolescents perceived their families to be operating more toward the functional than dysfunctional end of the scale. Males scored their families more functional in family structure and in external relations more significantly than did females. Females perceived their families as more functioning in internal relations, behavioral control, and basic requirements. However, a trend was found in favor of males on emotional fulfillment. Family functioning scores were higher in upper social economic status (SES) families than in other SES levels.

Abstract:

This study aimed at analyzing some psycho-social factors influence the commitment of 479 employees from different firms in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Using Organizational Commitment Scale (OCS), it was found that participants seemed to use discipline factor more dominant than concern; however, motivation to update and develop organizations they working in was found to be the least express commitment. The results also showed no relationship between age and years of service on the one hand and job commitment on the other hand; however, salary and educational level appeared to be significantly related with all OCS sub- scales except discipline sub-scale. Results also indicated that those who were more satisfied of their jobs seemed to be more committed than those who were less satisfied and females demonstrated more concern upon their job than males subjects whom used discipline as a way to express their commitment to their organizations. Employees working in national managed firms were found to have higher commitment in discipline and concern dimensions. Moreover, married employees are more discipline than single ones. This study might provide some incites that the theoretical constructs predicting the organizational commitment of employees still yet to have cross-cultural validity.
